The paper presents an overview of Canadian key achievements in wildland fire science, namely, in wildfire forecasting and monitoring. Among the internationally recognized achievements of Canadian scientists is the development of an integrated Canadian Forest Fire Danger Rating System including Fire Weather Index subsystem and Fire Behaviour Prediction subsystem. Moreover, they estimated relationship between climate change, wildfires, forest management and fire suppression practices, and the qualitative and quantitative composition of forests. These findings help
to determine strategic approaches for managing wildfires, including extreme ones, which pose a serious threat to human society in socioeconomic and environmental terms.
