In article nowadays functioning system of selection and training of commanders of educational groups is considered, the analysis of activity sergeant's structure of engineering faculty of Saint-Petersburg university of state fire service of Emercom of Russia, the reasons of the available shortcomings are analysed and the way of their elimination is offered. Need of entering of high-quality changes into process of selection and training of sergeants is proved.
