The article is devoted to a retrospective analysis of drinking water quality control in Saint-Petersburg. The role of water in the life of the population, the risks associated with poor water, the criteria for the availability of water before the 19th century, modern methods for decontaminating drinking water in Saint-Petersburg, are given an official assessment of the Neva water.
