The article describes basic approach used in determining the frequency of fires. In the article studied the effect of the technical characteristics of the building on value of the frequency of fires. In the article are given the statistical studies that show that the average frequency of fires increases with a decrease in the number of floors. Reduction degree of fire resistance of buildings not directly affects at increasing the values of frequency. The results show the need for further research to refine the values of the frequency of fires. To do so is necessary to in complex take into account the functional purpose of buildings and their technical characteristics.
