Abstract (English):
Evaluation of the excess heat generated in the process of catalytic oxidation of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and soot as a result of emergency operation of vehicles in climatic conditions of the Arctic region, is realized on the basis of heat balance analysis in the converter for the diesel exhaust gases using a heterogeneous catalysis model and experimental data. The heat generated in excess of the needs of an effective neutralization of harmful substances (pollutants) in the conditions of the contact of the catalytic converter with cold Arctic air is considered to be excessive. Main technical reasons of fire-emergency modes of operation of catalytic converters in the «harsh» conditions in the Arctic are also formulated.
