Presents an overview of existing methodical approaches to the assessment of risks of emergency situations. Reflected the practical use of existing methods in the field of risk assessment of emergency situations. Noted the special relevance of ranking of areas by probability of occurrence of emergency situations not only for planning of measures on liquidation of emergency situations, but also for the formation of strategies for sustainable development of territories, as well as for the compilation of safety data sheets of municipalities and territories of the Russian Federation, the need for the development which identified the Ministry of emergency situations of Russia.
