The article presents a prototype of the fire protection Combat regulations in the form of an 1875 edition entitled «Fire book» (Regulations of the law on fire precautions). This is the second edition of the detailed instructions for extinguishing fires, after the «Practical instruction to firemasters» by I.S. Gorgoli, which was published in 1818. It has been established that the «Fire book» was prepared and published by a team of authors led by the brandmajor of Saint-Petersburg, colonel Vladimir Karlovich Granfeld. The content of the «Fire book» is given, the significant influence of the presented publication on the formation of the modern Combat charter of fire and rescue formations is noted.
