The article deals with the issues of first aid to victims of accidents. It analyses the main causes of accidents, statistical data on their prevalence in Russia, and highlights the key factors affecting their severity. Particular attention is paid to the algorithm of first aid, legislative aspects regulating this sphere, and innovations in regulations coming into force from 2024. It is concluded that mass training of the population in first aid skills is necessary to reduce mortality and severity of consequences from accidents. Knowledge of the rules of first aid by the general population and citizens' mastery of practical first aid techniques can save thousands of lives and reduce the severity of the consequences of emergencies.
