The environmental footprints of modern production in the country and in the world have reached values that have a significant impact on the climate, and they need to be reduced promptly. The global attention to the environmental safety of modern civilization is a result of the imperfections in the technologies and methods of various production processes. As we know, these methods are focused on providing food for the population in rural areas. The authors' work in solving various theoretical and practical issues in this area confirms, based on the results presented in the article, the existence of reserves for reducing the impact of the environmental footprints of agricultural production (plant growing, animal husbandry, poultry farming, horticulture, processing, storage, sales, and other activities) on the planet's climate. The analysis shows that each of the areas of activity in the agricultural sector of the All-Russian Classifier of Economic Activities in Agricultural Production has reserves for improving the efficiency of production and reducing waste, including household waste. In this area, the government is improving a set of measures to achieve the desired results. The main ways to solve these problems are innovations in all areas of rural life, which are the foundation of food security. A distinctive feature of the current situation in this area is the incomplete balance between the needs of society for food and the environmental impact of the production processes that ensure food sufficiency. The purpose of the research is to assess the environmental footprint of rural areas and their consequences in comparison with the data from the All-Russian Classifier of Economic Activities and the ways to neutralize them using innovative solutions.
