Air includes not only a mixture of gases that are necessary for life on the planet, but also polluting dust particles, the composition of which depends on many natural and anthropogenic factors, climate, and the spatial layout of the area in question. This article analyzes the causes of increased concentrations of PM2,5 and PM10 particles, the sources of pollution, and their dispersed composition. It provides a review of research methods and techniques for studying the composition of dust, the distribution of PM pollutants at different altitudes in the air, and the distribution of particles along the human body. It is shown how much the dispersed composition affects the consequences of their entry into the human body, leading not only to chronic diseases that interfere with the normal functioning of the body, but also to death. The article presents experimentally confirmed facts that plant cover not only reduces the concentration directly above green spaces, but also at a distance of 10 m from the study boundary. The article proposes a method for managing the environmental risk of air contamination with PM2.5 and PM10 suspended particles by using not only traditional landscaping, but also compensatory landscaping of the second-level city, so the use of green roofs. The article provides a retrospective of the term «green» roofs and describes the methodology of an experimental field study of a «green» roof in Ryazan by the company TEKHNONIKOL. The conclusions are devoted to a review of the proposed issue and the experimental part of the work.
