The article proposes an issue regarding burial by dropping the body into water. The authors have analyzed global practices in this area, reviewed current national and international legislation and provided statistical data on the subject. In addition, a comparative analysis of Soviet legislation with the current legislation was conducted. In conclusion, the authors offer specific suggestions for the further development of legislation in public relations in this field. It is proposed to create a new subordinate legal act that would take into account all the environmental risks and procedural and ethical aspects that arise when burying a body by immersing it in water.
