This article examines N.V. Krylenko's activities in the justice system from the late 1920s to the mid 1930s, when he served as the republic's prosecutor and as people's commissar of justice of the RSFSR. An analysis of his prosecutorial speeches and press publications reveals the ideological characteristic and rhetorical strategies that defined Krylenko's role as a public prosecutor and the style of Soviet justice in the late 1920s. The authors focus particularly on two significant political trials of the era – the Shakhty affair (1928) and the Industrial Party Affair (1930). His activities as People's Commissar of Justice are examined, including administrative reforms, participation in collectivization campaigns, and the fight against «sabotage elements». The article assesses Krylenko's contribution to the development of the Soviet legal and prosecutorial systems, highlighting the contradictions between his legal ideals and the realities of Soviet political justice, which led to his downfall during the Great Terror.
