The main provisions of the methodology recommended by the authors for the selection of fire-technical equipment to the technical equipping of fire-rescue departments of EMERCOM of Russia within the framework of the Federal Target Program «Risk reduction and mitigation of natural and man-made disasters in the Russian Federation till 2015». The technique involves the selection of the main fire-technical equipment for the liquidation of emergencies in transport. It is shown that, along with tactical and technical characteristics of fire-technical equipment it is also necessary to take into account the characteristics of the reliability of fire-technical equipment.
